A friend of mine dropped off a piece of walnut 1 inch thick by 12 in about 24 inches long with some small cracks at one one end. It was from some walnut trees they had cut down from the family farm in Ontario. I thought I would make a couple of platters and was able to get one piece 12/12 and the other piece about 10/10.
I started on the smaller piece first. I knew I didn’t have much thickness at the bottom of the first platter and put the platter on my vacuum chuck to finished the bottom.
To my surprise the vacuum sucked the bottom out. Then I thought I would add a piece to the bottom but I didn’t like it. While walking through the house I stopped and looked at one of our round mirrors with a wooden frame. So, off I went to Michael’s for a round 7 inch mirror.
I had to make the opening a little bigger. I put the platter on my jumbo jaws and cut the recess for the
mirror.
Voila.
