Welcome to 2026

President Jim Beebe welcomed 43 club members to open a new year of creating wood chips and producing unique and inspiring wood turned creations. Announcements for the upcoming year were brought forth as follows:

Dave Lennox updated the group on the Saskatoon Collectors Show to be held at Prairieland Park, March 13-14, 2026.Advertisements have been published and he reminded members to ensure they had sent in remunerations for their tables.
Mark Noete discussed The Wood Show and asked for a show of hands of members who were interesting in exhibiting their work. 13 members raised their hands. In conjunction with the Saskatchewan Woodworkers Guild, The Wood Show has an exhibition area of 1000 square feet comprising of 20 8′ tables. Members will need to bring their work(s) to the venue the day of the show.
Surfacepalooza! Wednesday July 22nd to Sunday July 26th. An intensive hands on workshop with world renown artists, Michael Hosaluk, Melissa Engler and Graeme Priddle. The cost of this 5 day course is $950.00 with a down payment of $500.00 by February 28. Contact Mark Noete for details.
The Small Symposium will be held August 8th and 9th at Saskatchewan Polytechnic’s woodshop. The Hub City Turners are funding this with a minimal cost for food and beverages for members. Robin Reynolds has been key in organizing AV equipment and the venue. Thank You Robin! Attendees must be registered members of the Hub City Turners to attend for insurance purposes.

Demonstration

This evening Trent Watts gave a demonstration on how to create a goblet with a captive ring. Using custom tools, Trent showed how to rough out the shape, create the goblet and how to separate that delicate rings from the stem of the goblet, and finally to finish the base… fascinating!
