We hope everyone had an amazing summer. Hub City Turners had several very successful projects this summer.
In June we had a BBQ with members of the Saskatchewan Woodworkers' Guild. Following that, a number of members attended SurfacePalooza, a multiple day adventure in surface finishing of projects.
In mid August two world class turners joined us in Saskatoon for the Turned and Transformed Symposium. This was definitely reflected in the projects undertaken at our Shell Lake Retreat.
Discussion were held regarding Festival of Trees, which we will participate in once again this year. The Presidents Challenge this year will be any "inside/outside" turning to be shown at our Christmas party in December. A list was passed for any new turners to request classes so we can set those up in the near future. Mark Noete brough forward and idea to assist The Cancer Society Project to create wig stands and other topics for the new year.
Feature Demonstration
Paul Schroeder demonstrated his method of disguising cracks and imperfections in bowls, platters or other turnings by designing and inlaying "butterflies" using a small router and an acrylic template.
Paul explained the proper type of router bits to purchase to clear material and how to perform the final cleanup safely with a careful use of the chisel.
Paul also showed how he creates a heart shaped inlay using the same technique with a heart shaped template.
