I grew up in the Caswell Hill/Bedford Road area of Saskatoon and graduated from BRCI in 1959. I then began my carpentry apprenticeship with Smith Bros. and Wilson (now Wright Construction).
In 1964, the college of Education beckoned, and I began a teaching career of thirty years. The first fifteen years were spent teaching Building Construction and Cabinet Making. After completing a post grad course, the next 15 years were spent as an in school administrator.
Back in the early 80’s, got together and started the Saskatchewan Woodworkers’ Guild, open to anyone interested in woodworking in Saskatchewan. The 40th annual show is on at the Galleria this year.
I began turning on an 80 year old Atlas lathe, which I used until last year when I purchased a One-way 16-40. It has certainly changed my turning methods in a positive direction.
1 1/2 years ago, I discovered the Hub City Turners club. Nothing has sparked, challenged, and encouraged me as much as this organization. I appreciate the camaraderie, and skill and knowledge sharing so much.
I love turning green wood, but recently, I have been focused on segmented turning. Who knows what will be next.
