I was born in rural Saskatchewan in the town of Dodsland. I spent many happy hours as a child with my brother exploring our environment and making all kinds of creations with wood. The love of making and using wood eventually led me to working for 20 years as a carpenter.  During that time I also worked as an Emergency Medical Responder In the evenings and weekends.
For 10 years I owned and operated my own restaurant called “The Stopping Place” located on our farm near Ruthilda, Saskatchewan. We raised many exotic animals as part of our restaurant and farming operation.   I also spent many years at our local ski area as ski patrol, ski instructor, and CADS (Canadian association for disabled skiers) instructor and manager.
I married in 1973 and have 3 children and 5 grandchildren.
I always fascinated by the idea of wood turning but didn’t know how to get started. In June of 2007 my stepfather gave me some initial instruction, which fired the creative juices enough to make me a certified turning addict. Taking classes from people such as Jimmy Clewes, Brain McEvoy, Michael Hosaluk, and Trent Watts as well as attending symposium whenever possible has been a great way to learning the technical aspects of turning as well as methods to express my own sense of creation.  The world of woodturning has become a great passion for me and a wonderful way to spend my retirement.
