There are two entries for today’s ‘in touch’.
Mel Genge has been busy working away at his stash of bowl blanks.
Rick Hounjet has used his fabulous dyes to create another brilliant bowl.
Mel found some more bowl blanks while cleaning out a storage shed and converted these two Manitoba Maple burls into a natural edge and a regular bowl. Mel’s experienced turners eye could see that the first bowl had to be a natural edge to maintain the red colour as a feature in the bottom of the bowl.
This blank called for a regular turned edge to show off the distinct coloration.
Rick Hounjet created this beautiful bowl out a Box Elder burl with lots of voids and open areas. The red dye really gives this a regal appearance. He and Michelle called it “Ember” .
