Vic Schapansky has been working on a segmented bowl and sent in a description of his work flow.

I am calling this vase “Gone fishing”. The reason is it has a fish hook accent ring. There are 16 fish hooks, eight cherry and eight walnut, separated by a small piece of Beech. The white and black wood veneer in between came from Lee valley.

There are 306 pieces of Beech, Walnut and Cherry in the vase. I built it from a design in a woodturning book from Ray Allen’s creations. To make it a bit more complicated I made it a bit bigger than his diagram. It measures 6.75 inches tall and 8 inches in diameter.

My inspiration for segmented bowls came from Jim and Leo. Thanks for their help and hints.

I used the cut and toss method, probably cut over 400 pieces, I am making a goofy bowl from all the extra pieces. No air miles collected!!
