Trent Watts made a lidded bowl filled with ‘Celestial Masks’ for a show that is to interpret the word ‘Mask’.

I obtained a 12″ Jelutong bowl blank from Duncan Birch a few months ago. I had never worked with Jelutong before but knew that carvers valued it for holding detail and ease of carving. It was a delight to turn and carve and will be on my list if I see it again. My concept for interpreting the work ‘Mask’ developed as I remembered watching for the ‘Man in the Moon’ when I was a small boy and skies were much darker (and probably bigger!) The bowl is painted with Acrylics as are a number of the smaller ‘Celestial Masks’. Bass wood, Spruce and a few other unknown woods were used for the pieces inside.
