This piece of White Pine came from my daughter’s place in Slocan B.C. It was a tree that had recently died and needed to be cut down. It had a lovely symmetry in the branches that regularly came about every 12- 14 ” up the trunk. I oriented this piece so the branches would be at the widest part of the vase and would form part of the feathers. It is hollow turned to approximately 1/4″ thick with extra thickness in the base to allow for carving away and revealing the feather quills. The feathers are burnt, carved and painted with Golden interference paints. The background is textured by hand using carving tools.
