Kody Kammer is a relatively new person to join our turning group. He is doing some really innovative projects and tells about a recent one here.

I had bought a green apple (I think that’s what he wrote on it) bowl blank from Peter and wasn’t sure exactly what to do with it, then noticed it kinda looked like a mushroom top upside down, so I just started doing that. I turned a piece of what I believe is pine, then cut it in half with my chainsaw and epoxied it back together. Then I drilled holes in the blank and filled them. For the base I used a piece of red maple, but it was still wet and started warping after I turned it and it split in half, so I decided I would just put that back together also. Before doing so, I microwaved it a bit too much to dry it out, and it caught on fire, but only a little bit. I think it adds character 🤣.

After that I thought it might be cool to try and make it light up, so I got some led light strips and ran them up the center and folded them out the top. I would classify it as a “good from far, but far from good” piece, but I had a lot of fun with all the problem solving that it presented to me.
